Join us on our journey…

At A Little Wild, sustainability is at the forefront of all of our decision-making.

The idea for A Little Wild came about after a particularly enthusiastic sticker session by one of our children. As we walked our parenting pathway, we became increasingly aware of the challenge of balancing the desire to provide children with joyful play experiences with the responsibility we all have for keeping our precious planet free of waste and valued for its diversity.

We’ve selected a curated range of beautiful hand-made items that provide maximum joy with minimum impact on the earth. We aren’t about mass consumerism, just a select range of beautiful things, made with care and built to last.

Here are some other ways that we are putting the planet first:

  1. We’re minimizing plastic. We’ve selected a range of wooden, clay, and other hand-made products, that minimize plastic wherever possible – so almost nothing from our range will end up in landfill, something we’re really proud of!

  2. We shop local. Most of our creators are small, family run kiwi businesses created by clever people who wish to share their love of their craft with others. Occasionally we’ve crossed the ditch to our Australian neighbours but we’ve been careful with our choices, both to minimize transport miles, and to support our local economy.

  3. We buy bulk. Several of our play items are bought in bulk to reduce the transport miles and reduce packaging. For example our clay, our playdough ingredients, and our paint.

  4. We minimize packaging. All of our postage packaging options are recyclable or compostable which means we are minimizing waste wherever we can. In some cases, we’ve negotiated an alternative packaging option from our suppliers so that we can provide our customers with a truly zero-waste experience while encouraging our manufacturers to look at alternative options.

  5. We offer refills. We’ve tried to give you options to decrease your packaging footprint wherever we can. So we’ve created refill options for our playdough, clay and eco-paint products so that you aren’t collecting jars and tins, and instead can select your product refills wrapped in biodegradable paper.

  6. No nasty chemicals. All of our products are non-toxic, so they are safe for you and safe for the planet. We’re taking care so that you don’t have to worry about the health of your family or your ecosystem.

We are still walking our own personal path toward zero-waste, and while we’re not perfect, we are trying, and we are excited about sharing our experiences, hearing about yours and learning together.
